One Bag Full – based on the nursery rhyme, ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’ – is an initiative founded by four Capetonian friends during the South African national lockdown with a far-reaching vision of alleviating the hunger problem in some of Cape Town’s most vulnerable communities. A problem which they realised would be exacerbated by the impact of COVID-19 as many parents lost their jobs and the school feeding schemes would close.
One Bag Full’s team heads out every week to the Langa community (one of the oldest informal settlements in South Africa) and distributes sandwiches, fruit and nutritionally balanced food packs to those in need. One Bag Full works with Rise Against Hunger, the African arm of a global organization who are working towards eradicating hunger worldwide. The RAH packs consist of rice, dehydrated vegetables, soya protein and 23 essential vitamins.
By choosing to participate in One Bag Full’s initiative you:
-Provide a child in the Langa community with 3 meals a day for two weeks by donating towards the Rise Against Hunger food packs.
-YOU physically get involved by making sandwiches for the weekly sandwich and fruit drive. On your arrival in Cape Town, arrange a preferred day & time with your guide to make sandwiches. African Lynx arranges the bread and spreads and together with your Private Guide you make the sandwiches for those in need. The sandwiches of love are collected by a One Bag Full representative who then takes them to Langa each Sunday so that the children have something to eat immediately whilst receiving their RAH nutritional food pack.
-Lastly, there is the option to join the One Bag Full team on Sunday mornings for the weekly drop-offs, if your itinerary allows. Drive out to Langa with your Private Guide and One Bag Full representative and meet the rest of the friendly One Bag Full team at the Langa Hockey Stadium at 11h00. Be a part of handing out the sandwiches, fruit and meal packs to the children in Langa. There is no better feeling than seeing the smiles on the little children’s faces when they receive their meal packs.
